Area Attractions

When riding the MV Plover there are several area attractions on both sides of Drayton Harbor to keep everyone busy and far from boredom. Take a look at some of these fun things to do:

Semiahmoo Resort - Located on the spit of land across Drayton Harbor. The resort offers 198 luxurious guestrooms including twelve suites with beautiful views of snow-capped mountains, Drayton Harbor, Semiahmoo Bay and the Gulf Islands. Activities at the resort include:

Semiahmoo Park - the park is run by Whatcom County Parks and Recreation With over 300 acres of tideland and approximately 1.5 miles of level pathways the park offers an abundance of recreational activities from walking, biking, rollerblading, kayaking, clamming and picnicking. A bird watchers paradise the park is home to Drayton Harbor Maritime Museum which houses a restored Bristol Bay sail boat and offers exhibits on the cannery days on the spit by Alaska Packers Association.

Jim’s Salmon Charter invites you to an enjoyable day of Salmon fishing in the Washington San Juan and Canadian Gulf Islands. Jim's charter leaves right from Semiahmoo Resort dock.

Marine Park - The park sits directly on the border between the United States and British Columbia, Canada, with a clear view of the Peace Arch monument in Peace Arch Park. There is a interpretive trail with information on birding for the bird watching enthusiasts. A band shell and the Fisherman's Memorial as well as orca whale sculptures for the kids. The Port of Bellingham has moorage at the newly renovated Blaine Marina with nearly 800 state-of-the-art boat slips for commercial and pleasure boats including the dock for the MV Plover. And just a short stroll away is the Blaine Visitor's Center with information on just about anything happening from Seattle to Vancouver B.C.

  • April - Washington Brant Foundation's Wings Over Water Northwest Birding Festival.
  • June - Hands Across the Border
    This is an International celebration of peace with Scouts, Veterans groups and dignitaries in Peace
    Arch Park on the border between Blaine, Washington & White Rock British Columbia. Festivities include, parade and music.
  • 4th of July Fireworks over Semiahmoo Bay
    This includes a Parade and Arts & Crafts Fair

  • August - Plover Days & Wood on Water Festival, a weekend of fun along the Blaine and Semiahmoo waterfront.

Peace Arch Park - Peace Arch State Park is a 20-acre day-use park commemorating treaties and agreements that
arose from the war of 1812. Activities include the annual United States/Canadian "Hands Across The Border" celebration attended bymore than 30,000 visitors. There is an annual "Art In The Park" exhibition May through September. There are 20 sheltered and 80 unsheltered picnic tables at the park, available first-come, first-served.

Birch Bay - Located less than 10 minutes from Blaine and Semiahmoo, Birch Bay boasts the largest tide flat in Washington State. Birch Bay's safe sandy beaches provide the best sand sculpturing, kite flying, skimboarding, kayaking, clamming, frisbee playing around. There are year-round activities for kid's and thrill-seekers of ALL ages in Birch Bay. Recently named "the best place to fly a Kite" in Washington State by Northwest Family Magazine.
